HIEST seminar 30 October 2024: Taru Siekkinen
Imagining the future of the academic profession through tenure tracks
In RUU E314 Isa; Teams meeting link (public, free)
Presentation summary:
The tenure track career model has been implemented in both European and Finnish universities. However, there is a lack of researched information on how this affects the academic profession in general, particularly in terms of equal opportunities for career progression in academia. Tenure track evaluations include the meritocratic and neoliberal ideals that emphasise individual research merits, which is a very narrow picture of academic work. In the presentation, I will show some figures on Finnish tenure-track recruitment, which will give us an idea of the impact on the recruitment of women and international academics.
