Dr. Anne Virtanen works as a Senior Researcher at the Finnish Institute for Educational Research (FIER) at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her primary research interests include learning, guidance, and teaching at the interface between education and work. Currently, she is engaged in two teaching development projects – Toteemi and eAMK – funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture. The aim of these projects is to identify workable co-operative practices between universities of applied sciences and working life, as well as to examine and develop pedagogy at the interface between education and working life.

Research interests:

- Learning and teaching at the interface between education and working life
- Learning and teaching of generic skills (also 21st century skills, future skills, soft skills) in different school levels
- Students' vocational and professional development
