Professor James P. Sampson, Florida State University, USA
Translating Career Theory to Practice: The Risk of Unintentional Social Injustice

Jim Sampson is the Mode L. Stone Distinguished Professor of Counseling and Career Development in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University where he has taught courses in career development and computer applications in counseling since 1982. Since 1986 he has served as co-director of the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling and Career Development, a research center established at FSU to improve the design and use of computer applications in counseling and guidance. He has presented or consulted in over 23 countries. Sampson’s research focuses on analyzing the content and process of career decision making using a cognitive information processing approach, and then applying the knowledge gained to design and deliver cost-effective career resources and services. He is also interested in examining the design and appropriate use of information and communication technology in the delivery of assessment and information resources as well as counseling and guidance services. Sampson is a member of a Florida State University research and development team that authored the Career Thoughts Inventory (CIT). The team has also authored several books including "Career Development and Planning: A Cognitive Approach” (2000), and "Career Counseling and Services: A Cognitive Information Processing Approach” (2004).

Professor Risto Eräsaari, University of Helsinki, Finland

Risto Eräsaari teaches social policy and social theory (Gesellschaftstheorie) at the University of Helsinki. He is also a docent of cultural policy at the University of Jyväskylä. Professor Eräsaari is one of the leading contemporary Finnish researchers in the field of social policy and social theory. Besides historical and contemporary social policy and welfare state issues he has recently written on justification of social orders, knowledge management and new knowledge, and social expertise and politics of representation. In his studies the focus is often on diagnosis of our time (Zeitdiagnose) which is also present in his pamphlet (in Finnish) called "How unsafe is safe enough".

Professor Nancy Arthur, University of Calgary, Canada
Coherence, Co-operation and Quality in Guidance and Counselling: Strengthening our Foundation of Diversity and Social Justice

Nancy Arthur is a Professor in Applied Psychology, Faculty of Education, and is the Tri-¬Faculty Canada Research Chair in Professional Education at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Calgary in 1996, Nancy worked in post-secondary education as a counsellor. During her 15 years as a counsellor with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), she worked with a diverse range of adult learners from Canada and from other countries. Nancy's current research interests include professional education for cultural diversity and social justice, cross-cultural transitions, and career development. She has developed curriculum for both classroom and on-line delivery of courses on career development and multicultural counselling. She has been an active member of the Canadian Counselling Association and has served as the President of the Career Development Chapter. Nancy has published several books related to the topics of career development and multicultural counselling. The book, Counseling International Students: Clients From Around the World, examines the roles of counsellors for working with international students in higher education. Nancy has also published numerous papers which address professional practice issues for multicultural counselling, social justice, and career development. She is a chartered psychologist and continues to work with clients through consulting and private practice.
