Conference topics

The focus in this conference is on guidance as a systemic entity which takes into account the services visible to users and the mechanisms behind the planning and managing those services in order to enhance congruence between strategic planning and the implementation of guidance and counselling services. In this framework guidance can be seen as a chain of services and the responsibility of jointly shared by multiple providers. The importance of service networks and networking as a developmental activity is addressed.

The planning, development and implementation of guidance and counselling services can be described in different layers or dimensions:
• The policy development dimension includes the policy and legislation that shapes guidance services in different settings.
• The contextual dimension is concerned with the networks in which services are developed and offered, including regional situations,
educational and community settings, as well as socio-economic and work life structures that surround the people seeking guidance services.
• The organisational dimension focuses on the context for guidance service delivery from the organisational perspective, and includes inter-
professional collaboration to provide transparent and seamless services to clients. This dimension includes the development of guidance
services within organizations.
• The content and methodological dimension is concerned with the development and implementation of practises designed to meet the needs of different
client groups and to promote autonomy and career management skills in the context of lifelong learning.

The conference program will be organized according to the four dimensions mentioned above. The conference consists of parallel thematic seminars, presentation sessions, and poster sessions. In addition proposals for other type of session formats are welcomed (e.g. panel discussion, debate tables, workshops or interactive posters). If you wish to arrange a panel discussion/workshop/debate table please indicate the maximum number of participants included.

Thematic seminars (symposia)

For the parallel thematic seminars (symposia) we welcome proposals from national or international research groups or development teams. Thematic seminars are targeted to an audience of approximately 60 - 150 participants. The seminars last for about 90 minutes. The aim of these seminars is to share ideas and have a dialogue between different people and approaches. If the team presentation consists of separate presentations we invite the organizer of the seminar or the leader of the team to produce 1) an abstract of the seminar theme and 2) a short text file including descriptions of the different presentations and presenters. The latter should be sent directly to the conference organizers after submitting the abstract.

The organizers give to the presenters of the thematic seminar both freedom and responsibility in organizing the seminar. It is our wish the voices of different parts of the world, different guidance cultures, and different research traditions are heard.

Presentation sessions

These are targeted to the individuals or teams who wish to give a short presentation in a traditional way. For each presentation there is approximately 15 minutes time for presentation and 5 – 10 minutes time for discussion. The presenters are encouraged to distribute handouts of the presentation. Full papers are not expected by the time of the conference but some coherent form of the work to be distributed could help the conversation.

Poster presentations

A poster is a presentation of a research or development project carried out in the field of guidance and counselling. The international audience should be taken into account in the topic and contents of the poster. The maximum size of the poster is A0 (841×1189 mm).
