2005 (June-July) Distinguished Visiting Scholar at the Centre on Education and Work, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. (Expert Area: European Youth Education and Training)

2003 - Senior Researcher, Team Leader. University of Jyväskylä, FIER. Managing and coordinating the research programme on Internationalisation and Development in Education and Training. Funding from the Academy of Finland for six projects (554.290 euros) and from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (90.000 euros).

2001 – 2005 March. UNESCO Professor in Intercultural Education. University of Jyväskylä, FIER. Developing new multidisciplinary and international research initiatives for intercultural education and methodology.

2000 - . Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Jyväskylä (Expert area: Comparative research on youth education in TVET).

1999 – 2008. Managing and working for several European collaborative projects, such as SPES-NET Project, FINNBASE, Post16-Net, INT.COMP.

1999 – 2000. President of International Vocational Education and Training Association (IVETA). Managing and leading the global multi-professional non-governmental association including executive secretariat, vice presidents in global regions, newsletter, refereed journal, world conferences and annual conferences.

1993- 2008. Member of Editorial Boards and Reviewer for refereed journals, refereed professional conferences and books, as well as a referee for assessing professorships.

1998 - 2002. Senior Researcher. University of Jyväskylä, FIER. Managing the research programme on Work-based learning. Monitoring and working for several European collaborative projects. Developing the policy for workforce preparation and work-based learning in Europe and in Finland. Funding from the Academy of Finland and the Finnish Ministry of Education.

1995 - 1998. Project Manager, University of Jyväskylä, FIER, Finland. Coordinating and managing the European Commission's research project titled 'Finding New Strategies for Post-16 Education by Networking Vocational and Academic/General Education and Working Life to Improve the Parity of Esteem for Initial Vocational Training'. The partners came from eight European countries.

1990 - 1995. University of Jyväskylä, Senior Researcher and Assistant Director of the Department of Research on Vocational Education and Training. Preparing research proposals, applying funding and designing research plans for junior researchers. Leading and conducting research projects and writing research reports.
